Day 4: Old Orchard Beach, Kennebunkport and Boston on Foot and by Train

After a 9 a.m. meeting this morning at the hotel, we packed up and headed back south toward Boston. About 15 miles out of Portland, we stopped at Old Orchard Beach and walked barefoot along the beach for a few minutes. The water was freezing! I'm not sure how people could swim in it, but they were. The area around the beach was really neat. It looked like the boardwalk in the movie "Big." There were all sorts of carnival rides and concessions ("fried dough" and lobster rolls seemed to be the most popular menu items).

We left the beach and drove further down the coast and drove around Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. The towns and neighborhoods look like something out of a movie--too perfect and beautiful to be real.

After a late lunch in Biddeford, Massachusetts, we drove into Boston just in time for 5 p.m. rush hour traffic. It was a bit crazy, but we found our hotel which couldn't be in a better location (thanks, Priceline). We quickly checked in, changed and set out on foot to see the sights.

The Red Sox were playing tonight so we bought a Charlie Ticket and hopped on the T subway over to Fenway Park. The game was sold out, but we thought it would be fun to take in the festivities around the ballpark. It was quite the scene. The Celtics were there to show off their NBA champioship trophy. We didn't see the Celtics but we did see the trophy as it was leaving the stadium.

After the game started, we walked about two miles from Fenway over to Copley Square and then caught the T back to Faneuil Hall near our hotel where we ate a late dinner and called it a night.

Tomorrow we're visiting Boston Common and taking the Boston Movie Tour.
