Rats

I also posted an update on the boys.

I thought about putting a picture of an actual rat but I am still too disturbed so Remy from Disney’s Ratatouille will have to do.

I’m not sure I really want to remember this but I guess it is memorable. One night in early December, I accidentally left Luke’s school bag and lunch box on the floor of the garage because we were making room in the car to go to his Christmas performance. The next morning, a rodent or rodents chewed through the bag AND his lunchbox to eat a peanut butter cracker he had left in his lunchbox that day. In hindsight, we should have put our poison or traps then but I guess hindsight is always 20/20. So then one day after Christmas, we were going to eat at Chick-Fil-A with some friends who had been over at the house. We started driving in our neighborhood and the car starting acting really weird and would not shift gears properly and all the lights on the dashboard were flashing. We turned around and went home and moved the carseats to our other car. Well, as it turns out, a rat (or rats) had chewed through the insulation and other stuff on the bottom of our Pilot and managed to chew through the speed sensor wire for the transmission. The little pest caused more than ONE THOUSAND dollars worth of damage to our car.  We still don’t have our car back.  Thankfully, our car insurance covers this type of damage.

THEN—I was sitting in our office one night and heard the distinct squeaking sound of a rat/mouse in the ceiling above me and then heard it running. So, the nasty pests managed to get in our walls/ceiling too!! We called ABC Pest the very next day and they came and saw evidence of them in the attic and so we paid $566.00 to have them set traps and seal up any roof joints, etc. where the rats may be getting in.

We sincerely hope this is the end of our rat troubles. Ugh. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to us.

You will look back on this post and die laughing one day with the memories those rats created.
I hope this saga of the rat infestation is short-lived and they WILL only be a faded memory. It is a horrible homeowner's nightmare that trumps a broken water pipe or a leaking roof.

Happy New Year! It will get better. Promise!!

Ammy

Everyone has to deal with pests at one time or another. I am so glad we are no longer a bat haven. They made a eerie squeaking sound as well. I can't believe they chewed the car wires. That is bizarre. I am glad you got someone to help. Putting out poison and traps yourself can continue for awhile and sometimes with limited success. ABC will stand behind their work. I can't wait to hear the end of their tale. (ha!)
