Pacifier Fairy and First Day of School

It has been a big week around our house.  First, Luke gave up his pacifiers on Saturday night so the pacifier fairy could bring him some new toys.  I hesitated even putting this on the blog because I figured I’d be judged because my almost-four-year-old child still uses a pacifier.  But, this is our scrapbook and I wanted to remember this.  Since just before he turned two, he has only been allowed to use his pacifiers at night time and nap time.  We had discussed this with the pediatrician and he wasn’t too concerned.  He said as long as it wasn’t delaying his speech or he wasn’t trying to talk with the pacifier in his mouth, it wasn’t that big of a deal.  But, we figured by age 4, it was definitely time.  He was very eager to put them outside for the pacifier fairy and wanted to wait in his room until she came (watching from the window).  We tried to explain to him that it didn’t work that way and distracted him until bedtime.  When bedtime came and he really realized he would be going to sleep without his pacifiers he started crying and saying they were his best friends.  We made it through the night though, and he was so excited to get his toys the next morning.  The next night, he had a sleepover with Lily Bug, and that distracted him.  Overall, he has done pretty well.  We’re going on day four now.  He has said a few times he wants the pacifier fairy to bring him new pacifiers for his birthday—but  I think we are past the hard part.

On Tuesday, Luke started school again.  He had a great day and I think his teacher and class are going to be great.  There’s another Luke though, so he has to to go by “Luke J.” He gets to go to science this year, so that will be fun for him.  It was pouring rain, and we weren’t really able to get any good pictures, plus Luke wouldn’t put down Plastic Man—but these will do.
